Valentine’s

February 3rd, 2010 | Email Club, Stitcheries, Sewing | 8 Comments

Tony and I met on a blind date on Valentine’s day many, many years ago (24 actually!)
So we always celebrate and give each other a little gift.
This year I have combined the need to make Tony a gift with the need to design another exclusive pattern for my email club.
I know, I know…
I am such a […]

Rose hips

December 14th, 2009 | Stitcheries, Sewing | 9 Comments

No,
I didn’t really have the time to embroider some rose hips.
But I did it anyway.
Now, I’d better get back to the list…

Camel

December 10th, 2009 | Family, Sewing | 10 Comments

I saw a camel costume in the supermarket and was sorely tempted to buy it.
Really tempted.
But, of course I didn’t.
Instead I decided that the costume had to cost nothing (or I may as well have bought the supermarket version)
and that it could only take me 2 hours to make (as he’s only wearing it for that long).
So […]

Me

September 28th, 2009 | Sewing | 14 Comments

I found this great old photo at the car boot sale.
She wrote ‘Me’ confidently in fountain pen
on her pretty pinny
clearly in no doubt that she’d be remembered
and recognised by her nearest and dearest.
Sadly those days are gone.

Nevertheless, she has still managed to inspire me
to make a very simple, plain white apron
with a great big Me embroidered on […]

New Skirt

May 20th, 2009 | Sewing | 20 Comments

Thanks for all the links and tips you gave me for New York.
I have a long, long list to work from now!
I bought this lovely fabric for £4 a metre the other week.
And made it into a long a line skirt (using the same pattern as for this one).
I think I like it but I can’t forget […]

Time

April 24th, 2009 | Stitcheries, Sewing | 10 Comments

Last night, at bedtime Joe wanted to play lego and I wanted him to put his football kit away.
A deal was struck: he could stay up for another twenty minutes and do both.
But, when I came to put him to bed he hadn’t managed to do either.
So, I was cross and then he cried.
After a while, he said that he […]

Two years

My blog is two years old today.
So I made this to celebrate and to say thank you for all the your support and encouragement:
it’s a vintage embroidered tray cloth with an applique pig on it, in case you’re wondering.
with wording inspired by this fantastic Roald Dahl poem.
I know it’s unusual. But, I like it and hope someone else does […]

Flowery Blouse

March 26th, 2009 | Sewing | 9 Comments

So, this is what I did last night, at the expense of all else.
I made myself a flowery blouse (using Ali’s book again) from a thrifted sheet.
And today, despite the low temperature and pouring rain I’m wearing it.
With my all time favourite jeans and my furry slippers.
I have lots of the sheet left (it was […]

Blouse

In the little spaces of time between my nursing duties I did manage to make myself a blouse out of a buttery coloured linen from a beautiful Japanese pattern book, which was very kindly lent to me by Ali.
Despite there only being 9 instructions in Japanese and 5 drawings for the entire blouse it went together very easily.
Here it […]
