It’s not worth a blog post really,
after all it’s just scrap yarn and a few short rows of garter stitch.
But I like it.
Just not as much as these neckworms.
Scrap yarn and garter stitch at their best.

toasty

December 9th, 2009 | Crochet and Knitting | 10 Comments

So far this week I’ve taken a very muddy walk with the boys.
And knitted a pair of stripey fingerless gloves for a friend for Christmas.
I just copied everyone else (as usual) and made these.

The rest of the week will be spent making Joe a camel costume.
It has to be in school by Friday morning.
That’s in 48 hours.
And he wants to […]

Clanger

November 8th, 2009 | Crochet and Knitting | 9 Comments

You’re right I have been knitting a Clanger!
It was good fun too. A bit fiddly here and there, but fun!
Here’s the free pattern I used if you’re tempted to make one for yourself.
This one is a present for a good friend of ours who loved the Clangers as a small boy.
Whether he’ll actually want one for his 50th birthday remains […]

Pink thing

November 6th, 2009 | Crochet and Knitting | 14 Comments

This week I have been knitting this strange pink thing.
I couldn’t finish it last night because I didn’t have any pipe cleaners.
Can you guess what it is yet?

Now, this is completely unrelated, but Sew Mama Sew have started their handmade holidays and have very kindly included my blue sky thinker tutorial.
I guess it’s time to start thinking […]

Another lucky find

November 3rd, 2009 | Crochet and Knitting | 10 Comments

I seem to be on a roll with finding vintage jumpers at the moment.
My latest thrifty find is a hand knitted Aran cardigan.
It’s a little big for me and Tony hates it.
But tough I’m wearing it anyway!
Once I’ve changed the buttons that is.

Because when I wear it
I’ll look almost exactly like this.
Obviously.

Thrifty find

October 6th, 2009 | Crochet and Knitting | 6 Comments

Lucky, lucky, lucky me!
I just found a 100% pure wool,
fairisle jumper made (according to the label) by the Shetland Knitters Association Ltd;
at 111, Commercial Street, Lerwick.
(Which is now home to a soap making company).
And what did I pay for this treasure?
£8.
I know!
How jammy was that?
I can’t find any reference online to the Shetland Knitters Association,
so I’m […]

Scarf

September 4th, 2009 | Crochet and Knitting | 10 Comments

Over the summer holidays I treated myself to some mindless knitting.
No pattern, no shaping just a chunky yarn, big needles and moss (seed) stitch.
The only challenge was remembering to change colours. And I didn’t manage that reliably either.
Perfect holiday knitting. And just in case you’re wondering; no, I wasn’t too hot to knit it.
I live in England […]

Stripey thing

March 30th, 2009 | Crochet and Knitting | 11 Comments

I bought a few odd balls of this chunky Rowan yarn in the January sales.
Just enough to knit myself a little stripey thing (pattern from here).
Rightio.
I’ll be back on Wednesday, my second blogiversary!
And I may have a little something for you…

Gloves?

January 27th, 2009 | Crochet and Knitting | 9 Comments

Wrist warmers? Arm cosies?
What do you call them exactly?
Anyway, my orange things are finished!
The free pattern can be found here and
they are a quick, easy-ish knit (decreasing every 6 rows, thumb gusset, K2 P2 rib and a 10 row cable repeat).
I wish I had had enough yarn to make them slightly longer over my fingers, but […]

A bold choice

October 22nd, 2008 | Crochet and Knitting, Other | 11 Comments

No, don’t adjust your screens- I really did buy a skein of hand dyed orange wool at Ali Pali.
I just loved it.
And, I reasoned, it goes with green and brown (both safe, usual colours for me).
One beautiful day it will be a pair of long wrist warmers, possibly with a cable running up them.
But not […]
