Our Joe is 8
Happy birthday gorgeous boy!
Me
I found this great old photo at the car boot sale.
She wrote ‘Me’ confidently in fountain pen
on her pretty pinny
clearly in no doubt that she’d be remembered
and recognised by her nearest and dearest.
Sadly those days are gone.
Nevertheless, she has still managed to inspire me
to make a very simple, plain white apron
with a great big Me embroidered on […]
Miss Butterfly
Meet Miss Butterfly.
You may even remember her face.
Well, Miss Butterfly like so many other things round here,
has been patiently waiting for me to get my act together.
And today, I finally did. So now, she’s in my shop.
In other, unrelated (and very possibly old) news…
Anthropologie is coming to London!
I know, exciting isn’t it?!
The only trouble is: it’s opening on […]
Laundry
For ages, I’ve been looking for a laundry basket
big enough to hold our washing but at the same time
small enough to fit in our bathroom.
And had basically given up hope of ever finding one.
But then Martha Stewart came to the rescue.
Another small victory for home sewing and thriftiness!
Bedroom again
So, here’s another glimpse of our bedroom.
We have a cast iron bed, and a lovely feather duvet and (sadly always un-ironed) white bed linen.
After much agonising,
we also splurged on these beautiful mirrored bedside tables
and I’m so glad we did because look what they do with our weak British sunlight.
And of course, I needed a coaster for my tea cup.
So, I took […]
Wallpaper
Thanks for all the lovely comments about my scarf
and the wallpaper I’m standing in front of.
The wallpaper we eventually chose (after much discussion) was ‘Wolcott’ from Laura Ashley.
It’s a really sunny, warm yellow. I thought it was a bit too bright at first, but I love it now.
You can see a glimpse of our bedroom in […]
Scarf
Over the summer holidays I treated myself to some mindless knitting.
No pattern, no shaping just a chunky yarn, big needles and moss (seed) stitch.
The only challenge was remembering to change colours. And I didn’t manage that reliably either.
Perfect holiday knitting. And just in case you’re wondering; no, I wasn’t too hot to knit it.
I live in England […]
jam time
Year, after year I’ve made blackberry and apple jam.
But, I haven’t been given the cooking apples this year.
And I’m far too thrifty to buy them just for jam.
So, I’ve had to try something different with the results of my blackberry picking obsession:
Bramble jelly.
And guess what? It’s even nicer than blackberry and apple jam.
I took my mother […]
