Resolution Update

sockThanks for all the encouraging words about my bold decision!

You have helped to calm me down.

I am now feeling less panicked and more determined to do myself proud (I shall revert to panicking in a few months no doubt!)

And I’ve written a long list of things to do- a frighteningly long list actually.

As I can’t do anything without a list.

I thought I’d let you know how our New Year resolutions are going. Henry wore odd socks again yesterday (because he needed to show both of them to his friend apparently!) and I have been swimming once.

But we are at least trying…

Oh, but I have started knitting myself a pair of the most frustating and yet fascinating self-striping socks.

After a mere three hours work, 4 attempts to cast on, 1 spell of working on only 3 needles, 1 spell of realising it wasn’t joined into a round, and 1 round of twisted stitches- I have managed to knit 17 rows!

I must say that I’m finding it strangely addictive.

I completely understand the fuss about knitting socks now, although I’m still dreading turning the heel!

Great sock! Once you learn to turn that heel you’ll be so happy you stuck with it. I just learned how to knit socks last summer after many failed attempts before I finally triumphed – it was the heel that always got me. Now I just get frustrated at how long it seems to take me to knit a sock on those tiny sock needles and fingering weight yarn. By the time I finish the first one I have no desire to move onto the second one! But I did just buy a copy of the new Two at a Time sock book – I am hoping this will cure me of my habit to only knit one sock and never a pair!

Love the colour of the sock. I planned to make the girls socks for Christmas… completed one pair (eventually) neither has the same toe bit! And the other pair are in the bag with the bits… and I am still trying to find the person who unravelled them and rolled it back up into the ball!!

looks like they’re going to be great socks. I’ve never knitted myself a pair although I am so tempted but the thought of knitting in the round always puts me off!

    ah socks.

I’m afraid they’re worst than drugs. You don’t have the excuse they’re bad for you.

And when they look so good… well… the only way is ‘down’ the leg past the heel all the way to the toes…

Hi! I just started on socks again after about 10 years! The heel isn’t so bad, I’m not sure what technique you’re going to use but I used one from my mum, which is really easy. the left and right stitches look slightly different, but it gives a lovely shape. (you can see a photo on my blog, they are tiny socks though) My mum makes all my socks, I must have 10 or more pairs by now. My husband has a few now as well, a clear sign that he has been fully accepted into the family… If you’re having trouble with the heel drop me a mail and i’ll explain or list the technique for you.
