School
Henry started school yesterday.
Joe helped him get dressed in his school uniform and then all of us walked to school, with me saying something like “Doesn’t he look grown up?” every few steps.
When we got to school the new children were settled in to class by their parents and hugged and kissed (and clung onto in some cases) and generally given a fond farewell.
We weren’t.
Henry turned round to us and said “Why are you lot following me?”
So, we stopped being clingy and pulled ourselves together and just watched him grow up before our very eyes.

It is hard bit so much nicer when they just go off like that. My girl did the same on her first day at pre-school. A simple over the shoulder wave when I said I was going, somewhere in the sadness of my heart I was quite pleased.

Well hello, young man. He looks very sweet. And incredibly grown up, of course.

I parcelled number 2 son off to school recently and as other children are hugging and sobbing parents, he looked up at me with a “you still here? ” look! At least it shows happpy confidnece.
