Joe’s quilt

Joe QuiltI made this applique quilt for Joe when he was coming up to his third birthday. It has photos of us (which I transferred to fabric) riding tractors and watering plants, and Joe himself is hiding behind the farmhouse door. It took hours…and he has never liked it. If I put it on his bed, he just stuffs it in his wardrobe when I’m not looking!

Now, Henry will be three in June and I intended to make him a seaside quilt – but is it worth it? Henry doesn’t seem that interested in Joe’s quilt. But, can I make a quilt for one and not the other?

I’m supposed to be starting it on Saturday with my friend Lucy (whose children aren’t ungrateful wee warts, and actually like the quilts she makes for them!) So, my imaginary friends, a decision needs to be made – shall I make Henry a quilt or not?

well first of all, you are so talented! And I’d say yes, make Henry a quilt – it will always mean something to you, if not to him! Of course, equally, you could just claim the wonderful farm quilt as your own and then neither of them have a quilt!
But most of all, you are so talented!!

I say yes, your quilt is beautiful and you should make another, otherwise you will end up riddled with guilt like me. #1, #2, #3 all have baby books but by #4 (all in 6 years I might add!) I just couldn’t keep up…I have had to stash them in the attic because I just can’t face him knowing his Mum didn’t record his precious first moments…so YES make that quilt!!!

if i made be so bold as to comment…my little boy has a blanket that his granny made him. it will always be ‘granny’s blanket’ and i can’t imagine a lovelier gift. joe’s quilt is absolutely gorgeous, i’m sure henry will cherish his, if not now, in the years to come.
now i must stop commenting all your lovely blogs (janet, manda and tif) and do some work.

That is a fabulous quilt – ungrateful wee warts often grow to be considerate and loving dads who tuck their own little ones safely up for bedtime stories under the special quilt made by granny. I say make the quilt!

Hi, visiting after your visit. This is a beautiful quilt. Yes make another! These things take time for some children to appreciate and don’t you just love to stare at it yourself? As i’m tucking my own little one in bed i find myself staring at the fabric pieces of a quilt i use on his bed and it’s not even one that i or anyone i know made (there’s 1 in the making eventually). i think your quilt is really quite amazing.
