Thrifty find
Lucky, lucky, lucky me!
I just found a 100% pure wool,
fairisle jumper made (according to the label) by the Shetland Knitters Association Ltd;
at 111, Commercial Street, Lerwick.
(Which is now home to a soap making company).
And what did I pay for this treasure?
£8.
I know!
How jammy was that?
I can’t find any reference online to the Shetland Knitters Association,
so I’m assuming the sweater is quite old.
But I don’t think it’s hand knitted. I think it’s more likely to be hand framed (made on a domestic knitting machine).
Also, the buttons should be worn at the back, but I think I’m going to wear them at the front.
What a rebel.
P.S. Sorry, Tif.
I know you’ve been longing for a thrifty sweater like this.
But, this one is honestly too big for you.
P.P.S. Whilst researching Shetland and Fair Isle vintage knitting I stumbled upon all these free 1940’s vintage knitting patterns to download.

OOooooh that’s the kind of find that would have me skipping down the street! It’s gorgeous! And who could do those wee buttons up at the back – you’d put your back out and then you wouldn’t be able to go out and show off the lovely jumper!

The sweater is quite classy and the colors are to die for!!! I looked up the classic patterns. I would almost take up my needles for that lion. Even to torture my wrist(I get this giant bulb on my wrist when I knit), it is so cute.

all i can say dearest janet, is it’s a good job my lovely birthday package arrived safe and sound this week from yours truely… thus i am able to look deep into my heart and find peace with you and your fabby find of a cardi…
i have realized why i can’t find them at my thrift store, my eldest daughter appears to be buying them before i get a look in. worst still she looks so young and cute in them, even when she says she’ll share, i look like an old bag lady..
thank you for my presie, you sweet thing and well done with the thrifty hunting 🙂

actually technically it’s a half cardi… and yes the buttons must go at the front, giving it a modern, chic almost saltwater feel to it…
