Hare

HareThis applique is part of a larger quilt called ‘The Beauties of Nature are Charming to me’, which I made for the Festival of Quilts 2005.

The hare was applied with Bondaweb and then I ‘drew’ round it on my sewing machine. It was then hand quilted (which I hate doing). And because Henry was only one at the time I sat up until 3am every night for two weeks to get it finished! Madness.

I have entered another quilt this year which I want to show you, but am having trouble taking photos of it. I need to sort out my lighting issues!

You must go to the Festival of Quilts if you can – over 1000 quilts on display and every fabric, button, book and sewing shop you can think of! Mum and I are going for 2 days this year and have already started our shopping lists!

I’ve got rather a lot of ‘UFOs’ (unfinished objects) at the moment and I’m supposed to be making stock for my little shop…and Henry is 3 in nine days (and no, his quilt is nowhere near done!)… all this self-imposed ‘stress’ – it’s a bit ridiculous isn’t it?

Thanks for your comment. Your blog and quilts are very nice. I love the Irish as I worked for an Irish company a few years ago on a temporary contract. I really like their warmth and attitude to life. The dog on your Welcome page is great.

The hare is beautiful – you’ve really captured their joyful bounding in the movement – would love to see more of this quilt – hope you get your lighting issues resolved!

AAAH I know what you mean, I have 2 day to start, and finish a dolly quilt for Pebbles 2nd birthday.
Why do we do it? And as for sitting up til 3 in the morning, hand quilting madness indeed! but strangely satisfying.
Good luck with Henry’s quilt, I’m sure that it will be gorgeous if it’s anything like the others.

Oh we’re only doing one day this year I think – we usually do two, but I’m not going to try and take Bella this year, so it will just have to be the one day. I do love it so though!
You must show a photo of the quilt so that I know which one to look out for. That makes going even more exciting!
