Not work

I always come home from the Festival of Quilts bone tired but exhilarated.

But this year I also came back with the realisation that I’ve let sewing and creating become work.

That’s to say: if I haven’t got any actual paid work to do

I don’t sew or draw or knit or paint or… anything anymore.

This is not good.

This will stop.

So, whilst lying in a restorative candle-lit bath (must take more of those as well) I decided to make some new curtains (old ones here) just because I could.

And do you know it felt really good.

P.S. Because I know you’ll ask:

all the crochet doilies were thrifted, then machine sewn together

the floral fabric for the curtain was also thrifted and has previously been used as our tablecloth.

The paint (chosen for it’s name as much as it’s colour) is Farrow and Ball ‘Dead Salmon’.

I said hello at the Festival of Quilts, you said I had to leave a comment. Loved your work in real life, love the postcard I bought.
I make, draw, thrift, sew, patchwork etc just for me, just because I can. Your inspiration pictures are so lovely and show you have many skills to make such beautiful things. Good luck with the ME time.

    I love your ‘non-work’

And I think I’d like to be a paint namer.

You have just inspired me to collect all the doilies I can find. That window “drape” is so attractive and affordable. Just think you have designer window treatment for thrifting prices. That is my kind of style. Love it!

Dead Salmon, I love it! It’s a really lovely shade actually. Following in Floss’ tradition at Troc Broc and Recup I have made some ‘back to school’ resolutions, one of mine is to take more time to craft lovely things ‘just because.’ I make things with people in mind, for birthdays or Christmas, but this week I started making a cushion for our bedroom instead, look forward to seeing what you do make/draw!

I love how you made the curtains, beautiful and different.
I have a pair of lace curtains that I washed and shouldn’t have. Now they have holes in them, so will have to see what I can do with them. They have designs woven into them and love them.
