Joy in the Mundane

Mundane– practical and ordinary, especially to the point of dull familiarity.

Washing, wiping, cooking, cleaning= dull familiarity.

So, as the chores just will not go away I’ve decided that I should at least try to take a pride in them.

Try to see and feel the joy in the mundane… or failing that make them aesthetically pleasing at least!

And my first ‘chore’ to get the joy makeover is washing small boys!

Out with the hideous, garish mass produced face cloths and liquid soap and in with the knitted lace (pattern here) and handmade vanilla scented soap.

Yes, I know they still run off, they still wriggle, they still get dirty 2 seconds later; but at least the whole mundane, repetitive chore looks, feels and smells lovely now!

The only problem is that as I have only made 1 facecloth and 1 crochet bathmat– it only looks nice for one day a week…

Those came out great. I saw some giant skiens of cotton yarn the other day and thought of these, I think I might give em a try.

I always think about making those but now we are heading into summer the thought of crochet is not appealing. Maybe next winter!

Really pretty! What’s the pattern called? It’s especially nice. I’m up for it, cause we’re heading into winter!

Just found you via vintagepleasure. I’m so impressed with the fighter jet cake, I’ll just have to keep that one hidden from my 7 year old so he stays thrilled with my attempt at a pirate ship!

I do remember staying up until the wee small hours making a train cake only for aforementioned son to cry when I produced it, and, no, they weren’t tears of joy!

I love all your creations, yet another blogger to follow!

I think “work” is what you make of it. I’ve tried to teach my children that work is good, and if you do things with a joyful heart, you are helping to make the world a better place. For you, that would be one scrubbed boy at a time with your beautiful soap and towels.
