My First Quilt
Actually, this is still the only full size bed quilt I have made. It was made using any scrap of fabric I could find, including a tea towel and my Aunt Norahs’ old bedroom curtains!
I pieced each block in the traditional way (over papers) which Tony cut out of cereal boxes for me.
When all the blocks were made I went home and Mum helped me sew the blocks together and taught me how to make the quilt sandwich.
Mum had absolutely no hand in the disastrous quilting however!
I quilted it on the sewing machine my parents gave me for my 18th birthday. Which has no walking foot and even lacks the ability to lower the dogs. So basically, if you want to quilt on this machine you just force it round the curves!
We still sleep under this quilt, alternating it with one my Mum made us (which I will show you in another post.)
When I look at this quilt I don’t really see the strange fabric choices, the mismatched seams or that quilting. I only see the memories.
No wonder we’re warm at night.

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. That is what making things should be all about – the memories and the warmth they bring.

It’s beautiful. I love the way that quilts hold so many memories, and I particularly love the story behind yours.

So gorgeous. I love that it’s all made up of any scraps you could find. The whole color sceme looks like your style and the rest of your work too. The bit about the memories – that is as beautiful as the quilt itself.

Oh! I think it’s beautiful! Especially for a very first quilt..My very first quilt is going to be squares..or maybe rectangles, I think that would be even easier..
