Bird Cushions

I have finally finished my homing pigeon cushion.

Of course, you didn’t know I was even making it, but I have been for the last 5 months!

I started it after watching ‘Valiant’ with the boys and learning about the Dickens medal which was awarded to the homing pigeons for their bravery in the war.

I love that. Pigeons getting medals!

So, I was inspired and I sewed and sewed until the cushion was almost finished and then I put it away… until this morning, when I finally spent 20 minutes finishing it!

So, this cushion took a mere 5 months and 20 minutes to make.

I wonder how many other projects I have tucked away that could be finished in a matter of minutes if I could only be bothered?

My pigeon has been awarded a medal too (a military cloth badge found in a car boot sale).

I have tried to make him look proud of himself. A brave pigeon.

I have written about the blackbird cushion here.

And, apologies for the photos again.

These, unfortunately are the best of the 37 I took- see Tony, I desperately need a decent camera.

Your pigeon looks very noble and deserving of a medal. Gorgeous detail (which I’m sure would be much better seen with a better camera–it’s really not that bad, I’m just trying to help your case). And are you referring to my runner ducks when you wonder how many projects could be finished off with just a few minutes’ work?? I just walked past them, they need a tiny bit more quilting and a binding… Lovely work, Janet!

fantastic and might i add you really have captured the feel of ‘noble’ in your pigeons…are you going to be parting with ‘hope and glory’ any time soon, or are you keeping that one for yourself :)…just ‘a wondering’…

lovely cushion, i can sympathise with the camera situation, i’m using my other half’s but i have to admit to not fully knowing how it works, it is what i call a ‘real’ camera! would love one of my own.
