Hope is the thing with feathers

hope 1

We make our own Christmas cards every year.

But we don’t make each one individually.

I make one time consuming original picture,

then Tony does things with scanners and Paintshop Pro, prints off hundreds

and then I have the fun of writing them all.

Fair division of labour?!

I’ve been thinking about this years card and thought you might like to see the applique picture I made for last years.

Oh, the joy of being new to blogging!

I still have plenty of things in reserve for those weeks when I really haven’t achieved a thing.

The applique picture was inspired by this beautiful poem by Emily Dickinson.

In fact, that very poem sparked my whole obsession with birds this year.

And I’m still not over it either, as I am dreaming up a quilt for our bed…

Thanks for all the lovely comments about Joes’ poem.

He is very pleased you liked it and said he will try to make another one up soon!

I only cried a little bit at the Nativity play. I was doing really well until they played ‘Pie Jesu’ and all gathered round the manger…

Oh, I just love the crown on the breast!

I’m doing the same thing on my posts lately. Documenting projects from the earlier part of the year. Takes some serious pressure off while I work on gifts.

Nativity play – I’m tearing up just reading about it. And your robin is gorgeous (I love ED too).

beautiful applique – I love the handrawn quality that you achieve. well done for not shedding bucket loads of tears at the nativity – it’ll be my turn next week – must put tissues on this week’s shopping list! By the way Joe’s poem is wonderful – definitely a budding writer.

First of all I love your name “Janet Clare”. It looks graceful written and spoken. Kind of like the bird appliqué – very graceful. Both fabric and technique are fabulous.
