So, finally here is this years’ cake!

This was inspired by all those cute little villages I’ve seen everywhere (except on sale in a real shop anywhere near me…)

The original plan was to buy some cute houses and simply scatter them over the cake. But, having failed to buy any I had to come up with another solution.

And I’m so pleased I had to, because now I have made an everlasting cake ruffle/ band thing.

Thus starting a new family tradition of Alpine village Christmas cakes.

Joe was desperate to add a little skier to the mountain slope, but again we couldn’t find one anywhere.

Hooray!

There will be no more agonising over Christmas cake decorations for me ever again!

In other news… I have made an excellent start on the infamous dress.

I am now on step 34.

Unfortunately, there are 80 steps in total.

To be honest, the fabric has been a complete pig to work with.

And the pattern has proved my dressmaking skills are not quite up to the 1940’s ‘average’ standard.

In short, I am finding it rather a challenge.

Having said that though, I am enjoying being stretched.

I just wouldn’t advise picking the week before Christmas to do it in…

Anyway, I’m off to enjoy the festivities for a few weeks.

Thankyou for your wonderful company this year and I sincerely wish you all a very merry and jolly Christmas!

  3. So, Janet. The thingymajig round the cake isn’t edible? The cake looks good though. Plenty of icing!

  4. You are so talented. One of my goals for 2008 is to make a little mini quilt to hang on the wall and try out your style of your unique machine stitching on it. I am facinated by your great talent. Thanks for sharing it with the world.

  5. Your cake is awesome!! I love the little village houses, they’re so adorable! I wish I would have thought of something as creative for this Christmas. There’s always next year!

Thanks for the link to Oliver Jeffers. I didn’t know him but find his work very inspiring. The picture books seem to be really great stories.
