I saw a camel costume in the supermarket and was sorely tempted to buy it.
Really tempted.
But, of course I didn’t.
Instead I decided that the costume had to cost nothing (or I may as well have bought the supermarket version)
and that it could only take me 2 hours to make (as he’s only wearing it for that long).
So this is what he got:
And old pair of pjamas that don’t really fit,
a cardboard hat
and a vest made out of an old blanket.
For the humps I cut out two big blanket circles, made them into cones, gathered them and then stuffed them with wadding.
I must say I was pretty pleased with myself.
And Joe liked it:

As he should – it looks amazing!
me – I would have gone for the supermarket option i’m afraid!
if your wee man is pleased then that is a real result… well done … he looks very sweet… enjoy the performance tomorrow x
Oh! Can you call a camel Joe? Be careful, I have heard they spit.
Camel-tastic! Love his expression (the camel’s, well, Joe’s too of course).
Wonderful, I’m sure it will be a big hit.
just brilliant!!!

it’s a great costume – the humps are perfect!
Joe,
Is that a camel I see eating breakfast in your kitchen?
Don’t you just love little boys, with their willingness to join in the creativity and fun. I had one like that. Does your’s stand by the sewing machine offering suggestions and is so excited that you keep going beyond the start on making dinner?
I love little boys and their willing mothers.
Why was Joe a camel ?
Reminds me of the days when my boy (now 18) wore his dragon suit constantly! It started as a Halloween costume, but ended up as daily houseware. He would roar about the house endlessly. Three at the time. Sweet memory of boyhood. Thanks to Joe for triggering the good thoughts!
Thank you for posting this. I needed to make 4 camel costumes for work and this gave me some really good inspiration.
