Fern Diamonds

I remembered to put some make-up on the other morning and realised how old and hideous my make-up bag was. So it had to go!

I thought I would do some knitting for a change. The bag is just a long rectangle folded over at the top. It is knitted in a 4-ply ‘Longwool’ grown by Wensleydale sheep in Yorkshire.

The pattern is ‘Fern Diamonds’ and is my very favourite type of lace pattern because the right side rows are all fiddley (sl1, yo, k2tog, psso etc) and the wrong side rows are all purl.

So I only had to concentrate every other row!

inner bag

It is lined in a lovely subtle chicken fabric (no selvedge left and I can’t remember the details, sorry).

And it is fastened with a beautiful, but broken brooch I bought for 10p at a car boot sale.

I might remember to put some make-up on more often now.

It’s a gorgeous bag, so lacey and lovely. Perhaps you should put your makeup on in public now so it gets fully appreciated!

Beautiful! I think I might have some of that chicken fabric as well. It’s been aging in my stash for at least 5 years, I’m sure.

I think your bag is truly beautiful, and also agree with comments that it would make a perfect clutch bag – it deserves to be on show!
