Country quilts
I’ve been invited to share one of my favourite quilting books with you for Moda’s Book Lovers day.
I bought ‘Country Quilts’ by Linda Seward for inspiration when we were slowly restoring our first home- a tiny little Victorian house.
You see I’d decided that our bed needed a hand made quilt and the only way to get one was to make it myself!
‘Country Quilts’ is full of vintage hand made quilts photographed in stunning rural locations, and has a techniques chapter and some free patterns in it too.
So armed with the book and a pile of fabric gathered from any and everywhere (including a tea towel and my Aunt Norah’s old curtains) I started paper piecing the top.
Several years later my very first quilt was finished! And we use and love it to this day.
Traditional and vintage quilts are still my favourites and you can see my ‘collection’ on Pinterest.
I’m still daydreaming about owning a real vintage quilt. My boys have been told they have to keep my quilts forever and to tell their children to do the same. So one day our family will have a collection of vintage quilts and that thought makes me happy.

Your quilt is stunning. I’m also looking forward to my slowly growing collection of quilts being loved by my grandchildren in years to come.

I love your quilt! Isn’t it funny how many places provide inspiration. I love the traditional and vintage, too.

I adore seeing the vintage quilts too and I have always loved the country look. My first big project was also a quilt for our own bed: http://jenscraftwork.blogspot.co.nz/2011/10/quilts-catch-up.html Thanks for sharing, I am enjoying the blog-hop!

It is a fabulous book isn’t it ?
I can’t wait to see your new book either. And do you think the quilts will survive your sons handling for generations to come ?
Good luck ! 😉
