Spoilt and shattered

Yes, Henry and I were thoroughly spoilt for our birthdays- which is just the way we like it!

I am now 39.

It’s just a number.

My Mums’ birthday is the day after mine and she is just twenty years older than me.

So next year, we have vowed to be somewhere exciting for our birthdays. New York, Paris, Rome?

We’re not fussy, but we’re definitely not turning 40 and 60 in Britain either!

Anyway, back to being spoilt this year- my Mum made me this lovely bag for my birthday.

Isn’t it gorgeous?

Now, last week was crazy busy.

I was up at 6 and on the go ’til midnight all week trying to fit everything in. Now I’m hopeless at relaxing at the best of times, and I’m pretty stubborn too.

So standards were not going to slip around here, no matter how much I had to do.

Everything got made from scratch at home; 18 family members sat down on Sunday to a hot meal (with veggie and child friendly options available too) and a choice of puddings…

the house was clean, activities, games, balloons, party bags were planned etc, etc, and it was all great. Really enjoyable.

And then I carried on this week in much the same way until yesterday, when I literally couldn’t get out of bed.

I just lay around all day. Now, that is not me at all. I hate it- the wasted hours.

So I just lay there and watched Tony running around like a headless chicken instead (thanks Tony!)

But, this morning, I woke up at 4.30am feeling much better, the sun was shining and the birds were singing and I very nearly got up. I honestly did.

But instead I decided to learn my lesson, and turned over and willed myself back to sleep.

See? I’m obviously growing up…

Happy Birthday to both you and your Mom! Yes, definitely splurge and do something exciting next year. And, really, the 40’s aren’t that bad.

Happy Birthday! I’m 39 too … i keep telling myself that 40 is just a number … 5 months and counting (not) … I feel exhausted just reading about your activities!! I’m not surprised your body went on strike for a day. x

Happy BIrthday Janet !! I love your plans for your joint birthdays next year – I loved turning 40 ! 39 (like 29) is such a nothing age to turn!! And the work your mother put into that bag is amazing – I see the apple did not fall far from the tree!

    Happy Birthday.

June is full of birthdays in our house, 3 in 12 days. Unlike you though, that means cold and miserable weather here in Melbourne. Like you I want to spend at least one birthday overseas – in the Northern Hemisphere, so that I can have a summer birthday for once. I think it will remain a dream for many years to come though.
It is lovely that you will both have special birthdays together next year.

wow! that’s stunning. You (and your mum) should get on amazon and check out Amy Butler – she does beautiful books on making bags with beautiful fabric similar to this.

Quick question – how do you get your pics to have curved edges??

    M :o)
