Sweet or sour?

The boys have been playing a game at school which I’ve never heard of before:

You go up to someone and wave.

If they wave back they’re sweet and if they don’t you shout ‘sour’ at them and run off laughing.

Which makes me sweet because I always, always wave at children whenever they wave at me.

I mean why ever wouldn’t you?

After the recent success of the ginger lemonade I’ve become mildly obsessed with lemons.

I made lemon ice cream, which the boys hated.

And I’ve just tossed some freshly picked, homegrown and warm broad beans in olive oil and lemon juice.

Which the boys kept stealing as I was trying to take a photo.

Yes, that’s right. My children wouldn’t eat the ice cream but I had to tell them off for stealing the broad beans.

Strange but true.

Oh and just so you know; I don’t intend this to be a food blog.

I’ve got a picnic rug to show you, but as it’s the English summer…

it’s raining cats and dogs.

Oh its a rule in life to wave at children! My favourite lemon ice cram is to make up the usual ice cream base and then add a jar of lemon curd. Its lovely.

What a pretty bowl to show the beans in. And the combination of lemon juice and olive oil with a little salt, is one of Nature’s perfect creations. I would steal some too.
